Gude und Konnichiwa! Herzlich willkommen zu dieser Folge von Global Village 069 – Die Welt zu Hause in Frankfurt! Wenige Kulturen beflügeln unsere Fantasie so sehr wie die japanische. Allerdings sind unsere westlichen Vorstellungen oft verzerrt oder bruchstückhaft. Main Matsuri schafft genau hier Abhilfe. Seit 2018 holt dieses Kultur-Festival jedes Jahr ein Stück authentisches Japan an den Main.

Achtung: Das Main Matsuri 2023 findet in den nächsten Tagen statt: vom 18.-20. August am Büsingpalais in Offenbach. Tickets gibt es hier.

Die wunderbare Marina ist eine der vielen ehrenamtlichen Helfer*innen bei Main Matsuri. Der gebürtigen Frankfurterin sind beide Kulturen sprichwörtlich in die Wiege gelegt worden: Sie ist die Tochter einer Japanerin und eines Deutschen. Es ist ihr besonders wichtig, hier in Deutschland ein authentischeres Bild ihrer zweiten Heimat zu zeigen. Das tut sie unter anderem mit ihrem spannenden und sehr unterhaltsamen Instagram-Account @mointokio und ihrem Podcast Maru, den sie mit ihrer japanischen Freundin Kaoru betreibt.

09 - Japan in Frankfurt how to foster intercultural understanding – with Marina from Main Matsuri

Gude and Konnichiwa! Welcome to this episode of Global Village 069 - The World at Home in Frankfurt! Few cultures capture our imagination as much as Japan's. However, our Western perceptions are often distorted or fragmented. But fear not: Main Matsuri is here to rectify this very situation. Every year since 2018, this cultural festival has brought a piece of authentic Japan to the shores of the Main.

The wonderful Marina is one of the many volunteers at Main Matsuri. This Frankfurt native was literally born into both cultures: She is the daughter of a Japanese mother and a German father. It is particularly important to her to show a more authentic picture of her second home here in Germany. She does this, among other things, with her riveting and very entertaining Instagram account @mointokio and her podcast Maru, which she co-hosts with her Japanese friend Kaoru.
