In 1963 Malcolm X made a speech called "The Ballot or the Bullet". He questioned whether Black people would win our freedom through election or armed struggle. The reality is that throughout the African world white power creates and controls elections as a way to keep the people from fighting for their true liberation. Right now in the Democratic Republic of Congo there is mass protest against the once U.S. backed Kabila who stole the recent election. But Kabila's opponent is another U.S. puppet!
The International People's Democratic Uhuru Movement (InPDUM) understands that while the elections are controlled by white power they can be used as a platform through which we challenge white power on the question of public policy. This is why we ran Wali "Diop" Rahman for mayor against Nutter in Philadelphia.
The only real candidate for the people in Congo, Philly or anywhere else is the candidate whose program represents the interests of the people - not the interests of white power. The only real freedom for African people will come about when we have seized state power (ie army, police, courts, prisons, etc) through which we can repress all foreign powers who aim to oppress and exploit African people.
This episode of African Resistance Now takes on special significance as we enter the year 2012, marking the 40th anniversary of the APSP - a party founded with the mission of rebuilding and completing the Black Power Revolution of the 1960's. Through the next several episodes of ARN, InPDUM aims to win maximum participation in the APSP's upcoming plenary.
