Description

We know something is wrong as Gretchen gets out of the automobile. After her mother died back home, she was obliged to fly across the Atlantic to live with her father, his new wife, and their daughter Alma on Afdah Movies. She can clearly feel the weight of the world on her shoulders. Gretchen, however, views this as a chance to save money and make a break for it when Mr. König, the estate's owner, grows fond of her and offers her a position as a receptionist. Cuckoo is not so much a coming-of-age tale as it is an escape story from the start. The movie gives you enough hints to figure out its titular metaphor by the time it gets there—experiments, missing ladies, honeymooning couple.
