1 Timothy 4:1–2 (ESV) – “Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared.”

In this passage, Paul warns that some will turn from genuine faith to follow deception. Pastor David Sumrall reminds us that this decline doesn’t happen overnight—it starts with small compromises. When ministers or believers begin acting instead of serving sincerely, speaking lies instead of truth, silencing their conscience, and controlling others through legalism, they start walking down what he calls the path to the dark side.
