In this conversation, we get to see what the world of brick and mortar location development looks like from the perspective of one of the most accomplished experts in his niche, Architect and Professor Chris Ryan.  Having entered the design field after competing and placing at Nationals in his sport of choice, rock climbing, Chris parlayed his appreciation for the apparatus that brought him to the highest level of physical performance into an epic career designing and developing the modern world-class standard of indoor rock climbing gyms.  While he is still actively designing next-generation climbing facilities worldwide, Chris has branched out over the last 5 years into various other development projects under his own firm RyanStudio.us, and on this episode, he touches on many of the lessons he has been able to share from his experience working with dozens of different types of physical retail operators as they seek timely solutions to building the first manifestations of their dreams.  So, if you want to learn how to set up your project the right way so that it executes on time and at budget, or at least get an idea for what you might not know unless you’ve been executing consistently for 20 years, please join us as we learn from a master at his work, our friend Chris Ryan.

About Chris:

Chris Ryan is a licensed Architect, a registered contractor, and a former V.P. of Development for a national business. Chris specializes in helping owners take their ideas from their earliest stages to an open facility. After growing up on the east coast, Chris moved to Colorado to pursue climbing, skiing, and his undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado. After designing climbing walls for 3 years, he moved to Boston, where he got his Master of Architecture at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design. During his 12 years in Boston, he worked on a variety of projects, from prefab housing to high-end boutique projects and climbing gyms. Chris runs his own studio, and when he’s not working on making buildings, you can find him enjoying the beaches with his family, or surfing, climbing, and playing golf in Newport, RI.
