Description

The Dillon Town Council appointed a new member to the planning and zoning commission at a Tuesday, Nov. 18, regular meeting.

Council members voted for Diane Perrigo-Hicks over the other applicant, Nicholaas Zomer, by a 4-2 margin. Perrigo-Hicks will serve a three-year term on the commission.

At a Nov. 4 work session, Perrigo-Hicks and Zomer spoke to the board about their interest in being on the commission. A third applicant did not attend the meeting and was not considered when the board voted two weeks later.

Perrigo-Hicks said her family has been in Dillon since 1976, she graduated from high school in Summit County and she bought a condo in Dillon in 2005.

“I have a burial plot here,” Perrigo-Hicks said. “I’m gonna be buried here, so I’ll be here a while.”

Perrigo-Hicks said she has a background in property management and construction, through which she has experience interacting with planning and zoning commissions. She said she is not a full-time Dillon resident, but she plans to be in Dillon more often now that she is retired.

Perrigo-Hicks also said she has served on her homeowners association board for 10 years and that she has seen Dillon change a lot over her time living in the town.

“Some things have succeeded, some have not,” Perrigo-Hicks said. “It’s important to me that the changes that happen represent the town and the people in the town.”

“I thought that I would put my hat in the ring because I have the time and I have the interest,” Perrigo-Hicks said.

Council member Barbara Richard asked Perrigo-Hicks if she is willing to do “a lot of reading” on the town code, comfortable applying it to all applicants equally and prepared to act as an impartial judge. Perrigo-Hicks answered yes to all Richard’s questions.
