On this episode of The Life of Phys Podcast, I welcome back my close friend Ansley Stewart, a Houston, Texas–based photographer whose work captures the beauty of forgotten places and the stories they hold.

Ansley is drawn to lonely landscapes, seeking out sights fighting the battle against time. From the moment he first stood on a cliff overlooking a river valley, his perspective shifted, reminding him of the power of photography to change how we see the world.

Recently, Ansley discovered a box of Kodachrome slides at an estate sale and began the painstaking process of digitizing and researching the collection. Using his Leica M11 with an adapted macro lens, he and his wife have uncovered remarkable moments in history:

• A Texas woman honored in the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame

• Family outings and community life across decades

• Baylor University basketball and the Final Four at Madison Square Garden (1948/49)

• Rare images of a half-built Baylor football stadium against Texas A&M

• Even unsettling moments connected to the serial killer Dean Corll

  
  

Ansley’s passion for this project is clear, his goal is to preserve history and return the collection to the family it belongs to, ensuring these memories live on.
