Ep. 5: How One Police Service Modernized Recruiting with Mentoring
Description
SUMMARY
In response to the Me Too and Black Lives Matter movements, we have seen a number of organizations rushing to tick the “Diversity & Inclusion” box, which mostly encompasses unconscious bias training. But when diversity and inclusion strategies do not go beyond basic compliance training, we miss an opportunity to truly to assess how diverse groups may experience our policies, programs, products, and services. The only way we can uncover inequities is to ensure we include diverse perspectives into our decision-making.
But many organizations still struggle in figuring out how to integrate diversity, equity and inclusion within their systems and processes. One organization that has successfully integrated D&I into their recruitment strategy, is the Edmonton Police Service, which saw a 61% increase in women recruits and a 118% increase in diversity overall. And one way they accomplished this was with their Recruit Mentoring Academy, which is the only one of its kind in North America!
