It is finally time for us to review our first film by the Master of Horror himself, John Carpenter! Only it's not a horror movie that we're reviewing, it's Carpenter's second film,1973's Assault on Precinct 13. Written, directed AND with music composed by Carpenter, Assault of Precinct 13 tells the story of newly promoted lieutenant Ethan Bishop and his first night on the job babysitting a soon-to-be closed police station. But when the station is under attack by local L.A. gang Street Thunder, Bishop must team up with a group of prisoners if there's going to be any chance of survival. Inspired by movies like Howard Hanks Western films Rio Bravo and George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead, Assault on Precinct 13 was met with mixed reviews when it first came to theatres in 1976 but has since gained quite a bit of a cult following and has even been called on of the best action films of its era.
