Epic Pranks & Oregon Logging Stories- Mountain Man; Jim Reams & Curtis Roberts- The Wise-Life Blueprint Podcast
Description
Prepare to hear one of the worlds greatest story tellers at his finest…
On this episode Jim Reams, the Oregon mountaineer, hunter-fisherman and logger tells the most elaborate prank stories ever. He was known as the “Ghost of Mcdonald Lane” as a kid. His soul purpose in life was to strike fear and havoc into the hearts of family and friends- all in good fun of course. Jim was a logger for many years, traversing the horrendous Oregon Mountain terrain with spike boots and chain-saw In hand. He tells wild tales of being stalked by cougars, heavy machinery blowing up and dodging flying boulders the size of houses.
A note from Jim:
“I like to tell people that I was born in the last ice-age. Seriously though, I was born the seventh child out of eight. At that time, my parents were living in an old, very drafty and dilapidated farm house in the Wallowa valley. My first dim memories are of frost, and deadly cold, and glowing wood stoves, and high, snowy mountains. We gradually migrated westward until we settled in the Willamette Valley. I never really felt at home here, but learned to adapt over the years. My father's side of the family has the tendency to live like indians. The mark of wildness is on us. So who am I? Well, if I could live the way I want to I would live a very simple uncluttered life. I would earn money as a street musician, and as a handy-man\ sawyer\ jack-of-all-trades. I would live in a trailer or a tee-pee within walking distance of good fishing, crawfish, and lots of sea food and shrimp. I am a person with pioneer skills, and little else. I am a survivor, a hunter-gatherer like my ancestors. I don't take much in life very seriously, which is one of my faults I suppose. I have even been called the Prince of Impertinence. I am a joker. But I do take God seriously. He is true, and all else is just a house of cards. My father taught me the essentials: God, family, friends, fishing, fireworks, fellowship, and laughter, lots of laughter. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that I am a writer, but you probably already got that. I have written reams, and reams of literature, if I may call it that.As a postlude to all of this, I revel in the absurdities of life. I think people who have lived real, earthy lives have the most profound sense of humor. I remember a guy I worked with at a sawmill, Idaho Mike. He was so funny that people would avoid looking at him when he walked by. He once did an impression of a log loader digging up a Chinaman....you had to be there I guess. So my new job is a real challenge. All of my past jobs were merely endurance tests. You really didn't have to know anything. You just had to live through the day, hopefully with all your appendages still attached. Here at Zena Sawmill, I feel incredibly stupid and incompetent. I am a notorious clutz as well. But I am a warm body. I show up every day. I am courteous. And as my boss likes to say " You have a different skill set." Ha ha! That is putting it politely. Too bad he has not seen any of my skills yet. But I bet I give them a lot of laughs.”
What is the Wise-Life Blueprint? Unpasteurized discussions to uncover the pathways of life-wisdom, not sucking and giant-killing. The Wise-Life Blueprint is a platform for leaders, friends and reformers to story-tell, explore prophetic mystery, articulate the deep things of God and give practical tools. There is nothing more life-giving than a conversation wrought with substance and relevance—this is an attempt to share them.
