From mystery voice to a super streamer - with Joni Uutela
Description
How do you start making content if you don't want to be on camera?
Many people are afraid to make videos because of this. So, what can you do about it? Joni Uutela has a great solution. He started WITHOUT it.
Today, Joni is streaming his face and voice to thousands of people when he is gaming, but 10 years ago, Joni was shy about being on camera. He talked to his audience using only his voice and the chat box section.
In the beginning, it worked!
The initial success of getting people to listen and join his stream started to motivate him to take the next step. He realized that if people liked him for his personality without a camera, he probably would do even better with one.
And he did.
So, if you are a camera-shy person, Joni suggests starting by using an avatar like an animal or anime character, interacting with the audience with your voice and chatting to build a connection. Then, adding a camera to take your content to another level. The camera may not change viewers at first, but it helps people recognize and trust you easily.
Joni also recommends hiding the viewer numbers to takes the pressure off and allows you to focus on being yourself especially in the early stage.
The content should be as concise as possible since "less time, more content" is what people want to watch, and produce them in a high volume (even with few viewers) will help you learn about your audience much quicker.
There is more to the story than fits in a post, so hear the rest in the podcast!
