Grafted 2025: A Critical Analysis of an Entertaining Horror Drama
Update: 2025-01-30
Description
The dual narrative of the New Zealand film Grafted both illustrates the horrifying features of skin transplantation and allegorises the experience of immigrants. Wei, the main character, is distressed by a facial imperfection. After the passing of her father, a scientist who made a monumental discovery, she moves from China to New Zealand to live with her aunt and her glamorous cousin, Angela. Wei receives a scholarship and is keen to continue her father's studies, but she faces social rejection from her cousin's group and peers. This film skilfully blends horror themes with a critique of cultural integration worries and beauty ideals in society. the film can be watched on Afdah TV.
