Frequently Asked Questions: Tarot, Witchcraft, & Divination

Welcome to Season 14 of Every Day Tarot! This season, I’m answering your most frequently asked questions about tarot, witchcraft, and divination.

Today’s question: How do I connect with my guides?

Spirit guides, ancestors, angels, plant allies, animal spirits—many traditions and cultures recognize the presence of guides that walk with us. In this episode, I explore who these guides are, the different forms they may take, and how you can begin to build a relationship with them.

From meditation and tarot pulls to noticing synchronicities and signs, connecting with guides is less about forcing an encounter and more about opening yourself to the ways they already show up in your life.

What we explore in this episode:

  • What spirit guides are and the many forms they can take

  • Practical ways to begin connecting and communicating with spirit guides

  • Why connecting with guides is a practice of trust, subtle listening, and an ongoing relationship

What Are Spirit Guides?

Guides are often understood as non-physical beings who support us during our lifetime. Depending on your spiritual background, they may be called angels, ancestors, gods or goddesses, animal spirits, plant allies, or simply energy.

Some traditions believe we are assigned a team of guides at birth, while others teach that guides appear and depart depending on what we need at different points in our lives.

Ways to Connect With Your Guides:

  • Meditation & Breathwork – Find stillness, breathe deeply, and ask inwardly for guides to step forward. Notice what images, sensations, or feelings arise.

  • Tarot or Oracle Cards – Ask your guides to speak through the cards. Pull one with the intention of connecting.

  • Altar Work – Create a sacred space with candles, plants, crystals, or symbols that feel aligned with your guides.

  • Nature Connection – Spend time with animals, plants, or landscapes. Pay attention to what feels significant.

  • Dream Journaling – Keep a notebook by your bed to capture dreams and recurring imagery.

  • Symbol Tracking – Write down synchronicities, numbers, or signs. Patterns often emerge over time.

💭 Today's Tarot Pull:

From The Herbcrafter’s Tarot, I pulled the Eight of Water Valerian (Upright).

Exhaustion makes even simple things feel overwhelming. Step back, breathe, and allow ourselves to slow down—then you’ll find that guidance will flow more easily.

Reflective prompts on this card:

  • Where in my life do I need to step back, rest, or retreat in order to hear guidance more clearly?

  • How have my guides already been showing up in subtle ways?
