Classic Sci-Fi Story from Philip K. Dick
It's always good to return to the classics, and you can always count on classic sci-fi from Philip K. Dick. The concept of linking man with machines is more attainable than it was 64 years ago when this story was first written, and the never-ending search for peace while wars continue to rage is a topic that has been debated for centuries. Mr. Dick put these two themes together and wrote this short piece on what could happen if someone put his mind to it. This is sci-fi as it used to be, with more concentration on ideas and the story. Even though it has been around for years, this tale still stands the test of time.
A Neat Science Fiction Story, With A Twist!!!!
Phillip K Dick is among the giants in the science fiction writers. However, not many readers of science fiction have heard of him. He is best known for his realistic characters and for placing them into incredibility, strange, dangerous, or paradoxical situations. In this selection the protagonist is trapped in deep space, aboard a ship with a human brain!! It"s a great read for readers of science fiction!!!
The germ of a great idea
Perhaps several decades ago when Dick wrote this story it was shocking. Today it seems cliche. Philip K Dick has given us this little science fiction tale as an inquiry into war and a hope for second chances. Simply as a narrative this is an engrossing yarn. As a morality tale it is thought provoking. But overall this feels like a good idea that the author didn't do much with. Worth reading, but not one of Dick's best.
Blast-Off!
Take a brain-controlled spaceship, the brain with a mind of its own, and you have a story that kept me on the edge of my chair right to the end. Clever and thought-provoking tale. Who knew I'd like some science fiction? :-)
An unexpected positive short story by one of the bleakest writers of science fiction
When I started this short story, I expected it to be a dark story like electric sheep. But it turned out to be a very upbeat story with a wonderful ending. I would suggest this quick read for anyone who is interested in science fiction.
