Description

This third episode addresses the hard realities of Earth's rising temperatures and the impending chaos events that will disrupt Life and Civilization.
OUTLINE OF KEY IDEAS
1.  From David Wallace-Wells, The Uninhabitable Earth (2019(:  The fairy tales of climate change: it's slowly approaching, it's about the natural world, that wealth can shield us from its ravages, that burning fossil fuels is just the price we pay for progress
2.  Earth's temperatures are rising.  Humans are overusing "old, slow" carbon resources faster than nature can manage the CO2 that comes from burning these fuels.  The excess CO2 release stays in the atmosphere creating a blanket around Earth and resulting in rising temperatures.
3.  We can mitigate rising temperatures by using fewer fossil fuels
4.  We can adapt to rising temperatures by preparing for the chaos to come
5.  Among the disruptions that are coming our way: heat death, hunger, drowning, wildfire, extreme weather events, dying oceans, undrinkable water, unbreathable air, plagues of warming, economic collapse, destabilized governments.
6.  There needs to be honesty about what lies ahead and the commitment to unite, work together for the common good.
7.  The hope:  if humans are responsible for the problem, they must be capable of undoing it.
QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION
Should we focus on Mitigation?
Adaptation?
Who are the ones most at risk from this pandemic?
