First, there was TRX, the supercharged, off-road 1500 that Ram introduced in 2020. Three years later, Ford upped its own Baja-proven Raptor’s ante with the debut of a blown “R” version. With two of the Big Three truck manufacturers making boosted, 6.2-liter V-8-powered half-tons that have more power and greater off-road capability than their appearance-focused, four-wheel-drive rigs (wheels and tires, lifts, and “off-road” graphics), “What’s Chevy gonna do?” quickly became more of a concern in the four-wheel-drive/off-road space than it ever had been.

Well, Chevrolet still hasn’t done anything. But, a year after the Raptor R’s debut, and with Ram’s TRX now in its final stanza, we can only wonder if the announcement of a heavily modified, extremely dirt-centric 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 RST is a coincidence or well-played strategy. Yes, there’s a hardcore half-ton Chevy prerunner in the mix now, packing 700 horsepower (640 lb-ft of torque), and protected by 3 years or 36,000 miles of warranty coverage.

Fox Factory, a performance shock manufacturer celebrating 50 years of damper innovation and technology for two- and four-wheeled vehicles (ironically, one of them being Ford’s F-150 Raptor R), is now building a limited run of taller, wider, four-wheel-drive Silverado prerunners—yes, whole trucks.

They're highlighted by a long-travel front and rear suspension system designed by Baja Kits (the Brenthel brothers) that features race-proven 6061-T6 upper A-arms, Fox’s 3.2 Factory Race Series semi-active Live Valve internal-bypass shocks and 2.0 IFP bumpstops, and 7075-T6 billet rear trailing arms.

The high-tech shocks communicate with the truck’s ECM and stock suspension electronics to optimize handling, ride quality, and stability, and complementing the off-road hardware there are three electronic drive modes that can be selected for driving over different terrains (sand, mud, etc.).

A Fox mobile app (of course) is available and allows drivers to monitor all of the suspension’s activity. The off-road persona is further accentuated by 37x12.50R17 BFGoodrich A/T KO2 tires on 17x8.5 Method aluminum Bead Grip wheels.
