Autoblog - 2023 Wrangler VS Bronco Sales
Five years ago, Ford gave us our first concrete proof that a new Bronco was in the works. At the time, we had no clue what would transpire when the revived 4x4 came to market
Now, nearly four years after its tumultuous launch, production has more or less stabilized, setting the stage for a showdown decades in the making.
Sure, we can compare the Bronco and 2024 Jeep Wrangler all day long, but the proof is in the pudding: Which one do Americans want to buy? Here are the numbers and why they matter.
Jeep Wrangler - 156,581
Ford Bronco - 105,665
Jalopnik - Someone Lost $75,000 by Purchasing a Ford Bronco Raptor
A man named Nick thought he found a sweet deal when he saw a Ford Bronco Raptor for sale on Craigslist.
It had Alaska plates on it, was stolen from a Ford plant in Michigan, and was sold to Nick in Arizona.
Before having any money change hands, Nick wanted to make sure everything was good so he paid for a Carfax and took the title to a third-party office of the Arizona DMV.
Nick said “I ran the carfax and it came back clean, I checked the door vin to the title it a matched. I checked the car vin in the window and it matched. Final step the next day we meet at the DMV. We go in with his title and it clears, boom I have an Arizona title to this Bronco in my name with the exact vin everything.”
With everything seemingly good to go, Nick paid the seller $75,000 for the Bronco. But unknown to him, the Bronco was actually stolen from a Ford plant in Detroit and was part of a large theft ring, despite having Alaska plates.
The reason Carfax and the DMV didn’t flag the Bronco? “...it turns out the seller had switched the VIN. The new VIN did not raise any red flags in the state’s auto-title computer system,”
Police were tipped off a few weeks later as Nick attempted to trade the Bronco in at a local dealership for a truck. A salesperson at the dealer found a VIN discrepancy and Police seized the Bronco not long after.
