By Newsbreak Producer, Genenvieve Lanka - The Executive Director of the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation - Neeshan Balton - has called on the National Prosecuting Authority to ensure justice is served for those who paid the ultimate price for South Africa's democracy. Today marks the 50th commemoration of the death of anti-apartheid activist Ahmed Timol, who was killed in detention on this day in 1971. His body was thrown out of a window on the 10th floor of John Vorster Square Police Station. An inquest at the time ruled the death as suicide. However, a 2017 inquest by Judge Billy Mothle led to former apartheid-era police officer Joao Rodrigues being charged for murder.
