As the local government elections approach, many voters have expressed frustration over poor service delivery, with some threatening not not participate in the polls. Municipal elections are often marred by low voter turnout. In 2011, voter turnout stood at 57.6 percent. It improved slightly to at least 58 percent in 2016.
