By Newsbreak Producer Taliesha Naidoo - Today marks the 104th anniversary of the devastating Umgeni floods which claimed the lives of close to 400 people. The unlikely heroes of the tragic event were six fishermen who plied their trade in the Durban Harbour. The men - who are commonly referred to as the "Padavatan Six", responded to cries for help when the Umgeni River burst its banks at Springfield in 1917. It's believed the authorities at the time would not risk their lives to help the struggling community on the tragic day. Masla Pillay, who is the grandson of one of the fisherman named - Mariemuthoo Padavatan, says the unsung heroes deserve more recognition for their act of bravery...
