The film contains other intentionally disturbing scenes of violence, clearly intended to highlight the harshness of post-war Afghanistan, where the film is set, and the ruthlessness of the nefarious group of Islamic State fighters trying to seize power in the country. The setting and antagonist suggest that the filmmakers want to go beyond typical action movie tropes. Then, as we get to know the superficial characters, glimpse a rudimentary plot, and witness a few executions filmed as if to celebrate bloodshed, it becomes clear that this is just a routine action movie.
