The Six Triple Eight 2024 Review
Description
Combining a story of love and personal sacrifice with a historical event of great importance, The Six Triple Eight depicts the events of the 6888th Battalion of the General Post Office, the only unit composed entirely of African-American women serving in Europe during World War II. The protagonist, Lena Derricotte (played by Ebony Obsidian), decides to enlist after losing her boyfriend, a young Jewish pilot shot down at the front. Her personal story is intertwined with that of her battalion comrades, led by the determined Major Charity Adams (Kerry Washington). In a context marked by racism and sexism, these women are assigned the mundane but important task of sorting millions of letters that did not reach their destination because of the war. With careful organization and inexhaustible mental strength, the battalion succeeds in accomplishing this feat and providing important personal contact to soldiers and their families returning to the front. But the film also shows their determination to fight for their country, not just against the logistical challenges and military bureaucracy, but also against the deep-rooted prejudices that have relegated them to marginal roles. The series is available to watch in its entirety on Flixtor movie.
