Rich Knox: Creating a Self-Caring Life
Description
Rich Knox is a professional musician who lives on PEI.
He is the drummer for the band Danko Jones, and also offers wellness coaching through his company, Performer’s Health. Rich helps people live healthy lifestyles through nutrition, fitness, and mindfulness coaching. Working with people who live in unpredictable and sometimes chaotic lifestyles (ex: touring musicians), he knows what is required to help you create consistent and sustainable healthy habits in complex circumstances.
In this episode, Kailea and Rich discuss:
- Rich’s experience as a touring musician and living and learning what self-care looks like for him (on the road, vs. at home as a dad).
- What do we mean by self-care? What do we NOT mean?
- How would we care for an animal? Can we go back to basics?
- How do we figure out the difference between external (the list of ‘shoulds’) vs. internal (highly personalized medicine) self-care?
- Can we notice and release perfectionism in this?
- When we are depleted or burnt out, we have trouble knowing where to start or what would feel good. How can we work with this?
- Is self-care selfish? How does self-care intersect with caring for others and our community?
