Description

The Asia-Pacific War of 1937-1945 has deep roots. It also involves a Japanese society that's been called one of the most distinctive on Earth. If there were a Japanese version of Captain America, this would be his origin story.

I'm about to get into my third or fourth listen Supernova. Military history is so fascinating and WW2 takes the cake. One of my all-time favorite history quotes has to be: the Japanese are like everyone else, only moreso. Cheers Dan.

Ben for president 2028, even if he's fictional, he'd do better than any of the clowns running for office now.

Not to be too nitpicky but it seems odd to shit on the USSR in the context of a 24 hour long series about how nifty fascist Japan was.

you said that the European countries hadn't beheaded people since the 1600s. you need to correct that. consider France. Thousands beheaded during the French Revolution. beheading was the normal method of execution, last used in 1977, same year as Star Wars came out. not justifying the barbarism of the Japanese in WWII, just pointing out the error.

well done, Dan. I look forward to the Rape of Nanking. as to Hi Brow fantasy there is nothing better than Robert Jordan and The Wheel of Time. I'm listening to it for the second time through Audible. I read the series as each book came out originally. Listening to the series through audible again has brought a whole new relationship back to me with the characters and that wonderful world. I highly recommend it and would love to pick your brain about the series. that is, if you've read it.

This the first podcast of yours that I've listened to and I enjoyed it greatly. I'm now listening to episode 50 'Blueprint for Armegeddon I' and see a ton of great parallels. The biggest one I can think of is that between the nobody Princep sparking WWI and the efforts of the lower officer corps of the IJA in instigating colonial war in China. I hope for some tie-in or thought on this theme if you get to cover the August of 1945 near-coup by junior IJA officers in your next episode. The level of detail you cover in these is intoxicating. Thank you for the awesome podcasts.
