A reading from the Holy Gospel of John

恭读圣若望福音

Jesus said to his disciples:

那时候，耶稣对门徒说:

“As the Father loves me, so I also love you.

“正如父爱了我，同样我也爱了你们；

Remain in my love.

你们应存在我的爱内。

If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love,

如果你们遵守我的命令，便存在我的爱内，

just as I have kept my Father’s commandments

正如我遵守了我父的命令，

and remain in his love.

而存在祂的爱内一样。

“I have told you this so that my joy may be in you

“我对你们讲论了这些事，为使我的喜乐存在你们内，

and your joy might be complete.

使你们的喜乐圆满无缺。

This is my commandment: love one another as I love you.

这是我的命令：你们该彼此相爱，如同我爱了你们一样。

No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

“人如果为自己的朋友，舍掉性命，再没有比这更大的爱情了。

You are my friends if you do what I command you.

“你们如果实行我所命令你们的，你们就是我的朋友。

I no longer call you slaves,

我不再称你们为仆人，

because a slave does not know what his master is doing.

因为仆人不知道他主人所做的事。

I have called you friends,

我称你们为朋友，

because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father.

因为凡由我父听来的一切，我都显示给你们了。

It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you

“不是你们拣选了我，而是我拣选了你们，

and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain,

并派你们去结果实，去结常存的果实；

so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you.

如此，你们因我的名，无论向父求什么，祂必赐给你们。

This I command you: love one another.”

“这就是我命令你们的：你们应该彼此相爱。”

How did Christ love us, Chinese friends?

朋友们，基督是怎样爱我们的呢？

 He loved us enough to endure great pain and death to save us so we can live with Him in eternity. 

他如此爱我们，以至于心甘情愿承受巨大的痛苦，甚至牺牲性命，好使我们在他内获得永远的生命。

 He gave up His life for us, he loved us greater than man can love. 

他为我们献出了自己的生命，他对我们的爱是任何人都无法比拟的。

But man can love as Christ did if he believes in God and follows Christ’s teachings.  

但是如果我们信赖天主并且遵循基督的教导，人也可以像基督那样去爱。

We must empty ourselves of this world, so we can fill ourselves with the love of Christ then our actions toward one another will be as Christ commands.

只有把世俗的杂念清空，才能充盈着基督的爱。如此，我们对彼此的行为才符合基督的诫命。

 As St. Augustine tells us, “they who love one another for the sake of having God within them, they truly love one another.”

正如圣奥斯定告诉我们的一样“那些因心怀天主而彼此相爱的人，才是真正的彼此相爱。”
