Breathing is an essential part of life and a major component in our health. This #THIRDTHURSDAY lecture is designed to be an introduction to how breathing impacts our physiology and various diagnoses. This course will teach you how to breathe properly, how breathing changes as you're in pain and how you can use breathing to improve outcomes with various diagnoses including headaches, tinnitus, cervical pain, lumbar pain and even long COVID.

What to expect:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Review proper breathing mechanics and patterns.
- Explain how breathing correlates to diagnoses such as headaches, tinnitus, cervical, lumbar and TMD.
- Screen for O2:CO2 imbalance.
- Demonstrate how to use breathing techniques to improve athletic performance or work capacity.
- Use breathing techniques to treat dx such as tinnitus, H/As, cervical and lumbar pain.
- Verbalize how breathing can impact orthopedic pain and improve health measures.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Carl Wharam, PT, DPT is the Clinic Director at Doctors of Physical Therapy in Bartlett where he specializes in orthopedics and craniofacial diagnoses. He earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy at the University of Michigan-Flint. Afterwards he was trained in the Buteyko Method, Tummo breathing and gained experience with Postural Restoration Institute. He has worked with the Hobson Institute. When not in the clinic, he enjoys playing pickleball, practicing the guitar and finding the best donuts in the area.
