Description

Women’s Health and Pelvic Health have become more visible in the last 20 years, but many clinicians are still unaware of how common pelvic issues are across all patient populations and feel that even talking about pelvic issues is out of their scope of practice. Many physical therapy programs do not include even the basics of pelvic floor assessment or how to talk about bowel, bladder, and sexual dysfunction. Pelvic issues may be awkward to bring up, but they can have a dramatic effect on a person’s quality of life.

This #THIRDTHURSDAY course will cover the basics of pelvic anatomy and physiology, as well as common pelvic issues your patients may be experiencing. Understanding what pelvic floor therapists do, and how any physical therapist can help people with pelvic issues, will elevate your practice and improve patient care. A frank discussion about common symptoms, simple questions to ask, and knowledge of appropriate referrals can be life-changing for patients.

Dr. Sarah Haag, PT, DPT, MS shares insight and expertise on "Let’s talk about SEX – and other topics that make you uncomfortable."

What to expect:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss common pelvic issues such as urinary incontinence with patients.

  • Describe appropriate referrals for patients reporting pelvic complaints.

  • Describe how to do a pelvic floor contraction.
