The A-Trane 2025-09-12 - Charlie Rouse, Fall Previews, Birthdays, NRs
Update: 2025-09-20
Description
Mostly previews and birthdays on this afternoon's edition of The A-Trane Radio Program. Oliver Jones takes in the theme - he turned 91 yesterday and is still participating in some of the Oscar Peterson centenary celebrations happening across the country.
Other birthdays observed today are Leo Kottke, Mel Torme, Texas Alexander (I don't know what the hell is that!), Cat Anderson and Baby Face Willette! We'll hear previews and new releases from Elliot Freedman, John Stowell, Bill Frisell's Lookout for Hope, Ches Smith's Clone Row with Mary Halvorson and Liberty Ellman, George Garzone, James Danderfer with Miki Yamanaka, Holly Cole, Mike DiRubbo, Kit Eakle and Noah Franche-Nolan!
Also an opening set that shows some different sides of saxophonist Charlie Rouse from a couple of new reissues from the mid-70s - a progressive release on Strata-East Records and a Brazilian set originally for Douglas expanded on a new Resonance Records release. We'll also hear him (and Coltrane) in settings with Thelonious Monk to round things out.
Another well-rounded show - tune in for a balanced jazz diet at 100.5FM or coopradio . org this afternoon starting at 2 PM Pacific (and available soon as a podcast!)
