In this episode we discuss the things you were never taught at University. Ash and I deliberately didn't plan or prep for this, as we wanted this to be organic and off-the-cuff. And exactly for that reason, it was a great chat as we broke done a bunch of different things which are super important to us, yet were never taught at Uni. In this episode, we discuss: Misconceptions about what allied health is and what allied health is worth (from a monetary perspective) Underestimating being self-employed (client cancellations, annual leave, taxes) Session rates being proportionate and perceived client value The human side of working with clients: how we communicate and try to understand our clients Learning how to deal with and solve problems The importance of understanding socioeconomics and how that influences our businesses Charging what you are worth vs. what you think you are worth Marketing your products and business Being a digital company Why people need to know about your product Why it is so damn important to continually educate and upskill yourself It’s not what you know, it’s who you know The difference between doing courses to upskill vs. to feel better Networking and why connecting is a game changer Connecting with people that you can learn from and trade ideas with Why connections and having a large network will help you Why University offers a pool networking opportunities (Lack of) economics and business education in the allied health world Giving vs. taking Summary. We'd also absolutely love it if you subscribe to the pod as it'll help us to continue getting amazing guests on for chats about all different topics.

This week Jonny keeps in (relatively) local, catching up with Athletic Coach Konstantin Stamm, who is based in Hamburg, Germany. Konstantin has multiple years of experience as an Athletic Coach, working with a tennis club in Hamburg, along with a number of professional youth football players. Konstantin is also studying to become a physiotherapist so that he can best help athletes throughout the whole process from rehab to performance. He's a seriously intelligent dude who, unlike most, loves to use his free time reading research papers and questioning current practices. Above all, he's a great human who loves a good chat and a coffee. In this podcast, we discuss: Konstantin's background What blood flow restriction training (BFR) is from a internal perspective (what is actually happening at a cellular and hormonal level during BFR) The confusion of qualifications, particularly in Germany, but also just more generally around the world What happens at a hormonal level when we "get a juicy pump" during BFR What the traditional BFR protocol entails (reps and intensities) Using BFR to manage training and impact loads with athletes How BFR can be used during periods of higher fatigue to maintain strength without straining the body A great case study which highlights the positive use of BFR at higher intensities with youth athletes Using BFR during ACL rehab How to find the right pressure to use for the BFR cuff or band Contraindications of blood flow restriction training.
