Things just fall into place to help you get there. And whether that's fate or whether that's due to the attitude in the way that I go about things, I don't really know. But all I know is that if I act in the way that I want to be, then things will happen to help me get there”Emma Tod is no stranger to goal setting, challenge & adaptation. I think high performance is where that gap between your best day and your worst day is narrower than everybody else's. And I think what that then leads to is that you're able to understand what makes you good at what you do. But equally, it internalises it and gives you the locus of control that says you know how to fix it; because you've got self-awareness, remarkably quickly. So that answer of the gap between your best and worst day being narrower anyone else's, contains an awful lot of elements of high performance that I've identified over the course of the interviews” Damian HughesMy guest today is the international speaker and bestselling author, Prof. Damian Hughes; a renowned expert who combines his practical and academic background within sport, organisational development and change psychology, to help organisations and teams to create a high performing culture. He is the also the co-host of The High Performance Podcast, which dives into the mindset of high-achieving, world class performers.Damian & his co-host Jake Humphrey have brought some truly phenomenal interviews to the table: Sir Clive Woodward, Jonny Wilkinson, Matthew McConaughey, Sir Ben Ainslie, Michelle Mone and Sir Chris Hoy being just a few.Our conversation today explores some of those iconic interviews - including that Jonny Wilkinson one - and we discuss the key attributes and non-negotiable habits of high performers across the globe.Damian HughesWeb | http://liquidthinker.comInstagram | @liquidthinkerDare to Dreamhttps://linktr.ee/exeterrealFurther LinksStart Close In David White -
“I just say what I'm thinking and lo & behold, it turns out a lot of people are thinking the same thing. You know. Saying oh, I'm so glad someone said that because I keep seeing all these perfect people telling me to do this and eat this and only eat here. And this bloke, he's all right. He's in good shape. He moves well. And he's just saying, keep it simple. And they're thinking; wonderful. I'm not, I'm not saying keep it simple, easy. There's no such thing as easy, when it comes to taking care of yourself mentally and physically; that's hard. But I'm saying don't worry about all this nonsense that you're being sold. You're being sold stuff, because people are trying to make money. I'm not trying to make, I'm trying to make a living. I'm not trying to make money. I'm trying to help you save money. I'm saying don't do all that. Don't get all that stuff. Just, don't, you know, you don't need all the clothes. You don't need all the gear. You just need to get in gear”Hello and welcome back to a brand new Season of the podcast where we’re continuing to explore the psychology behind extreme challenge; asking the question "are we all truly capable of achieving extraordinary feats? “being an entrepreneur is not just about the successes, but the failures. And where do you go when you are faced with that failure and how do you adapt and change? That was really important to me, because I think a lot of people, and especially women, we get this imposter syndrome where we look at other women, we see their highlight reel and we're like, oh, my God, she's so amazing! But this didn't happen for me and I failed at that or this didn't quite work out. Or I don't have money. And it's like, well, we're all the same, you know; we all experience these failures and setbacks and we should be more open and vulnerable when it comes to sharing those, because that's what really, truly connects us” Asha DahyaHello & welcome back. Hosted & edited by Tracey Duke, produced by Felix Northover and recorded via Zoom during Covid-19, we ask the question; what does it take to thrive in a world of both challenge & opportunity and, most importantly, how do we build the resilience and leadership skills to get us there? In Season 3 of the podcast, recorded via Zoom during the Covid 19 pandemic, we’re exploring the psychology behind extreme challenge and asking the question; are we all truly capable of achieving extraordinary feats? And, most importantly; how do we do it?My guest today is Asha Dahya, the Founder of Girl Talk HQ; an online community which aims to inspire and empower young women with positive, original and shared, content. A TEDx Speaker and the author of Today's Wonder Women, published earlier this year in March 2020, Asha was born here in the UK, raised in Australia, and now lives in Los Angeles California with her husband and young family. Asha has spent the last 16 years creating, producing and hosting content for networks such as MTV, MSN.com, Disney, ABC, Nickelodeon, Fox, Nine Network Australia and more. Passionate about empowering women and girls to raise their voice and share their story with the world, she’s been featured on platforms across Southern California, including NBC California Live and KTLA 5.Today’s conversation takes a look behind the scenes of her book Today’s Wonder Women, the challenges faced and overcome on her own journey, and explores the changes she’d like to see in her children’s lifetime. We talk role models, failures and the urgent need to move forward as a united battalion of sexes. As always, thanks so much for listening; it’s always our intent that our work inspires your next steps and that you take from it that which resonates with you. We hope to see you back next Friday and, in the meantime, you can order a copy of Asha’s book here  Hosted & edited by Tracey DukeProduced by Felix NorthoverExeter Real Instagram - @exeterrealWeb - http://www.exeterreal.co.ukEmail: tracey@exeterreal.co.ukFelix Northover Web - https://www.felixnorthoverphotography.comInterested in sponsoring the podcast? “I'm so passionate about not waiting for permission; not waiting for someone to pick me or say that I'm good enough. I just start making my projects. I just go down the road and do the work. And then, if the work is good, people can’t deny you; they can't say, well, you might not be qualified. That's what I love about Losing Sight of Shore. Honestly, it's probably the project I'll feel the most proud of, I think, in my whole career; because nobody would have picked me to direct that film. Nobody. Not even me. It’s a pretty remarkable thing that happened”Hello & welcome back. Hosted & edited by Tracey Duke, and produced by Felix Northover in season 3 of the podcast, recorded during the Covid 19 pandemic, we’re exploring the psychology behind extreme challenge and asking the question; are we all truly capable of achieving extraordinary feats? And, most importantly; how do we do it?Our guest today is LA based filmmaker Sarah Moshman; an Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker and TEDx speaker whose work has been featured on Upworthy, Marie Claire, CNN, and Good Morning America. Our paths crossed after watching her extraordinary film Losing Sight of Shore; which featured our recent guest Laura Penhaul. The Netflix released documentary followed Laura’s incredible journey, as part of a team of four women, who rowed across the Pacific Ocean. You can watch it on Amazon; the link is below. Her most recent documentary; NEVERTHELESS takes a look behind the headlines of #MeToo and Time’s Up to shine a light on the sexual harassment crisis; it’s a powerful, moving piece of journalism that uses the art of story telling to uplift, inform and inspire as well as showcase strong female role models on screen.Prior to working in documentaries Sarah worked as a field producer on the hit ABC show Dancing with the Stars for 10 seasons as well as shows on NBC, MTV, Lifetime, Bravo and the Food Network. She also directs branded content for EllenTube, Tastemade, Mattel, AT&T and more. Sarah is an inspiring public speaker and an adjunct professor in documentary film, passionate about empowering the next generation of storytellers.Today’s conversation takes a look at her early influences, at her gutsy ‘get out there and make it happen’ attitude and the story behind that incredible documentary Losing Sight of Shore; including the moment she got that call confirming the Netflix deal whilst on holiday in New Zealand.Today’s episode is made possible by the team at PHAB. If you have a dream, when you're a young lad, or a young girl, and that dream bears fruition and you live and breathe that moment you've visualized for 15, 20 years; that's powerful. I mean, it's massive".Hello & welcome back. Hosted & edited by Tracey Duke, produced by Felix Northover and recorded via Zoom during Covid-19, we ask the question; what does it take to thrive in a world of both challenge and opportunity and most importantly, how do we build the resilience and leadership skills to get us there? In Season 3 of the podcast, recorded via Zoom, we’re exploring the psychology behind extreme challenge and asking the question; are we all truly capable of achieving extraordinary feats? What is it that enables an ordinary, every day person, to commit to & to complete, an extraordinary, sometimes life-threatening, feat? And, most importantly; how do they do it? My guest today is Ollie Phillips and, if I’m honest, it’s hard to know where to begin. An adventurer, global speaker and ambassador, his early career began in rugby where he was known as one of the most successful England Rugby Seven’s captains in history and voted “Best Seven’s Player in the World” in 2009. After a forced early retirement from the game, due to injury, he now specialises in team-building, leadership, culture, resilience and change management. In the five years that I’ve personally known Ollie, I’ve come to know him as one of life’s true adventurers; a man who is constantly challenging himself to grow and develop his skill sets. Whether he’s racing across America, climbing Everest, running extreme endurance marathons or inspiring the world’s leading organisations to build high performance cultures, Ollie Phillips is a man who rarely stands still. Today’s conversation explores his very personal battle with mental health following his career ending injury, the mindset behind some of his most famous achievements, pushing through adversity and dealing with change. As always, thanks so much for listening; it’s always our intent that our work inspires your next steps and that you take from it that which resonates with you. We hope to see you back next Friday and, in the meantime, don’t forget to join us on Sunday evenings at 8pm BST for our Instagram Live Feed; we’d love to see you there too. Hosted & edited by Tracey DukeProduced by Felix NorthoverExeter Real Instagram - @exeterrealWeb - www.exeterreal.co.ukEmail: tracey@exeterreal.co.ukPHAB (Main sponsor)https://protectiveppe4u.com https://www.instagram.com/protective_ppe_4u/ Ollie Phillips@olliephillips11https://www.optimistperformance.comCognacity - Mental Health Expertisehttps://www.cognacity.co.ukLinkshttps://therpa.co.ukhttps://www.clipperroundtheworldhttps://woodenspoon.org.ukFelix Northover Web - https://www.felixnorthoverphotography.comInterested in sponsoring the podcast? The Dawn Wall; the story of Tommy Caldwell & Kevin Jorgeson staggering free-climb of El Capitan’s most formidable rock surface and Losing Sight of the Shore, the epic record setting pacific ocean crossing by an all women team, back in 2015.These gripping, outstanding examples of human endeavour led me to question what lies behind the psychology of extreme sports? What is it that enables an ordinary, every day person, to commit to & complete, an extraordinary, life-threatening, feat? And, most importantly; why?My guest today is Laura Penhaul, a physiotherapist and extreme sports athlete; one of the crew who set a world first record by rowing across the Pacific ocean, from America to Australia; a phenomenal feat that took, in total, nine months and was the subject of the documentary Losing Sight of the Shore. The record setting crossing was certainly not without its challenges; technical issues in the first ten days saw them abandon the attempt and return to dock in America, after years of planning and investment. As Laura herself states; ’It was a moment of critical decision making, as a team and as a leader. For me it was a significant learning point of having to outweigh pride and personal want, with putting our team first for the success of the journey”.My conversation with Laura explores the psychology behind this phenomenal journey and asks the question; is there truly something extraordinary, within reach, for us all?As always, thanks so much for listening. “We understand what unions are going through. What the game's going through. What spectators are missing out on. What players are going through. So it's one of empathy & solidarity, in particular, which are great values of rugby. But our promise is that rugby will be back and it will be back stronger and more fit for purpose than ever. And that's our goal. And we're working very hard to ensure that the game comes back as soon as possible, in the fittest state as possible, in every aspect of it. And that's what we're working to do; that's part of our mission. It's our modified mission in the current environment”.Hello & welcome back. Hosted & edited by Tracey Duke, produced by Felix Northover and recorded via Zoom during these incredibly challenging times, of Covid-19, we ask the question; what does it take to thrive in a world of both challenge and opportunity and most importantly, how do we build the resilience and leadership skills to get us there?Professional sport is, without doubt, facing a period of unprecedented challenge; with solutions and answers as to how we move forward, frustratingly out of reach for all. Whilst they may all be sat in different boats, governing bodies, clubs, athletes, sponsors and broadcasters are all facing the same storm and asking; what next? How does sport get going again? How can this time be put to use and can previously long term changes be brought forward? What about sponsorships; we know all too well of the importance of this revenue source for both club and sponsor. And, of course, what about the athletes themselves; how are they holding up and what mindsets will be getting them through this time?Inspired by a recent webinar hosted by Alex Payne of the Influencer Room, my guest today is Brett Gosper; the CEO of World Rugby & arguably a man with an enormous challenge on his hands. Brett’s career spans over 30 years; starting out in Melbourne Australia as a young Wallaby trialist, representing his country at under 21 level, through to a professional playing career at Racing in France, through to senior positions within global advertising agencies, and now to his role as CEO of the world’s governing and law making body for rugby union. Today’s conversation will give you the thoughts, from the heart of world rugby, as to how the game’s governing body may move through this unprecedented situation and considers too, how sport, in general, may recover from a global crisis. As always, thanks so much for listening and don’t forget to join us on Sunday evenings at 8pm BST for our Instagram Live Feed; we’d love to see you there. Exeter Real Instagram - @exeterrealWeb - www.exeterreal.co.ukEmail: tracey@exeterreal.co.ukFelix Northover Web - https://www.felixnorthoverphotography.comWorld RugbyWeb - www.worldrugby.orgInstagram - @worldrugbyInterested in sponsoring the podcast? “The 15 that took to the field, the night we won (the championship) in Bristol; every single one of those players had been told that they weren't good enough at one other club. We were a bunch of misfits; all told that we weren't good enough, with a chip on our shoulders, and we were going to play the favourites. You couldn't ask for better. We've now established ourselves in the top four, hopefully top two, teams in England. Now we're just got to establish ourselves as the top team in Europe”Hello & welcome back.Hosted & edited by Tracey Duke, produced by Felix Northover and recorded via Zoom during these incredibly challenging times, of Covid-19, we ask the question; what does it take to thrive in a world of both challenge and opportunity and most importantly, how do we build the resilience and leadership skills to get us there?According to renowned author and rapid transformational therapist Marissa Peer, one of the biggest and most common issues people face, is the belief they are not good enough. It’s a thought that pushes them to self sabotage and to put challenges, obstacles and roadblocks in the way of achieving their optimum potential.Every so often however, there’ll be someone who’ll break that mould. Who, despite the feeling of not being good enough; despite the rejections, the set backs and the detours in the road, will keep going, keep striving and keep believing. These types, more often than not, will succeed despite it all.My guest today is Gareth Steenson; a man whose career, in his own words, is built on a foundations of not being good enough, yet whose contribution to his club’s performance has secured his place, in rugby’s hall of fame, as one of the premiership’s greatest ever point scorers. One of the original Exeter Chiefs, he helped his team to reach the 2016 Premiership Rugby finals at Twickenham and was awarded the prestigious golden boot, as the highest scoring premiership kicker that season. The following year, in 2017, he started the final at Twickenham, scored two conversions and three penalties, including the winning points, to defeat 2016-17 English PremiershipToday’s conversation deep dives into the life & career of an extraordinary athlete. We’ll also jump into:lockdown life during Covid-19risk takingstaying presentthe importance of routinepositive daily habitsWith a special guest appearance from Gareth’s wife; Karen, we also chat about life on the front line as a GP, about maintaining a can do attitude and her concerns on moving forward & easing lockdown in the UK.As always, thanks so much for listening. “Why is it that we're so obsessed with this idea that we must go to bed at the same time every night? Even a good sleeper is never, ever, going to get the consistent sleep every single night. They're never gonna get that eight hours. They're never going to do that because every day is different. And sometimes they are just going to take a bit longer to go to sleep. It is normal to get sleep problems. That is the body's way of adjusting to change”. Hello & welcome back. Hosted & edited by Tracey Duke, produced by Felix Northover and recorded via Zoom during these incredibly challenging times, of Covid-19, we ask the question; what does it take to thrive in a world of both challenge and opportunity and most importantly, how do we build the resilience and leadership skills to get us there?Ever have one of those nights when, despite running off the day’s stresses, despite the relaxed evening, the bath, the candles & Matthew McConaughey whispering quietly in your ear, it’s just not happening. Your mind refuses to stop over-thinking, you toss and turn and it feels like house party has taken up residence in your head. Well, it turns out you’re not alone. Lockdown & Covid-19 is keeping us all up at night, to some degree, and that blissful nights sleep is but a distant dream…The good news; our body has our back and if we can just take away the expectation of a perfect night’s sleep, and put a few tools and tricks in place throughout the day, it’ll help no end with getting you through the night. My guest today is Stephanie Romiszewski; a Consultant Sleep Physiologist, she is the founder of the Sleepyhead Clinic here in Exeter and a Channel 4 series sleep expert.Working in the wellness and medical industry, both with NHS and private clients, Stephanie specialises in complex sleep cases, developing bespoke treatment plans for her clients.Because, and let’s be honest here, feeling tired sucks. It leads to irrationality, deterioration of health & wellbeing and a breakdown in communication skills, among a whole stream of other negatives. Get it right however and sleep will magnify every positive aspect of your being to an extent greater than diet or even exercise. Leading sleep experts across the globe agree that getting sleep and recovery right is crucially important and possibly never more so than now, as we arm ourselves in our fight against Covid-19. Today’s conversation explores the ways in which grief, extraordinarily long working hours, uncertainty, exam & financial worries are all taking their toil on our sleep. But, thankfully, there are ways in which you can improve the quality of your sleep and negate some of the pressures and stress we all, to some degree, feel right now. We’ll also take a deep dive into:What you can expect from your sleep, or lack of itSleep vs RelaxationSleep debtHelping kids & teens through this time of lockdownAnd we give you the professional, low down on the controversial sleep prescription drug Modafinil. Trending as a perceived performance enhancing drug among high achievers, & university students, but with some pretty severe side effects, we explore whether there many be a temptation for those on the frontline & government to turn to it as a crutch during times of intense sleep deprivation. And if they do, what to expect long term. Huge thanks to Felix and to Stephanie for pulling together and getting this recorded and out during a time of intense global & personal pressure, and for helping to capture a poignant moment in history. Thanks for listening to my conversation with Stephanie. “But I will tell you this. You can't deal with it unless you decide to deal with it. You can't just do it on your own. You can't just bump through life just going for a run when you feel stressed out or just, you know, having a glass of wine. There is stuff that needs to be dealt with; stuff that needs to be worked on. And so you need to go and work on it. And that's going to take some dedicated time for yourself. And if my story is meaningful to anybody, in any sort of way, then I'm be incredibly happy to know that somebody could then have the bravery to go and search out some of these modalities” William Laitinen - Founder & CEO Exige International Produced by Felix Northover and recorded via Zoom, during these incredibly challenging times, we ask the question; what does it take to thrive in a world of both challenge and opportunity and most importantly, how do we build the resilience and leadership skills to get us there. In this unprecedented time of global chaos and uncertainty, now more than ever we, as leaders, entrepreneurs and change makers need to dig deep and draw on our innate abilities to problem solve, innovate and instil a sense of calm, to lead with confidence. We need to get clear on facts; differentiating between what’s real and what’s hype and building common sense conversations around the truth, to make the best decisions for those relying on us. And now, more than ever, we need to bring our focus back to our own mental health and wellness in order to bring our skill sets to the table & to continuing thriving. When it comes to running your business, finding good people can be challenging, especially when competition is fierce for top talent. But, above all other needs, attracting A players; the industry elite, to your organisation is key. My guest today is William Laitinen; the chief headhunter and CEO of Exige International; an executive recruitment company, founded in 2001. From their base in Devon, the team places the finance industry’s elite candidates across Europe. When William founded Exige; almost 20 years ago, he began with one, clear, ambitious goal in mind; to change the face of recruitment. Today’s conversation will delve into his key observations, over a twenty year career, and explores his own journey of enlightment. His curiosity as to the outer limits of human potential has seen him explore areas of transformational breathing, meditation and stoicism; harnessing rare and occasionally controversial states of consciousness to solve critical challenges and reach enlightenment. Huge thanks to Felix and to William for pulling together and getting this recorded and out during a time of intense global & personal pressure, and for helping to capture a poignant moment in history. “In times like this, everyone has to come together. I think the important lesson for everybody is ‘don't judge people when their chips are down, judge them over a period of a lifetime’. When we are vulnerable and when we're in desperate need of help, that's when we shouldn't be judged. People make mistakes. And I've made loads of mistakes in life. And I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. I think that's how we learn and that's how we come together as people; that’s how we really, truly understand who we are. We should never judge people when we're going through times of struggle like this because people will make mistakes”. An entrepreneur and mentor with businesses both here in Exeter and in Melbourne, Australia. Tom is the founder of Life According to Murf; mentoring people to become the best possible version of themselves and creating the highest levels of success in business and in life. And as we record, he’s on the upward trajectory after contracting what was almost certainly the Corona Virus, 3 weeks ago. My conversation with Tom explores: - the long term effects of isolation - regret - leadership in a time of extreme challenge. He also delves into his own personal practices that you can put in place today, to move through this period and emerge on the other side stronger than ever. Huge thanks to Felix and to Tom for pulling together and getting this recorded and out during a time of intense global & personal pressure, and for helping to capture a poignant moment in history. “Basically humans just want to be heard and they want to be reassured that it will be okay. And it will be okay. You know, this is something that we do know. We might not know how or when, but it will be okay. And that re-assurance sometimes this is all that we need” Produced by Felix Northover and recorded via Zoom during these incredibly challenging times, we ask the question; what does it take to thrive in a world of both challenge and opportunity and most importantly, how do we build the resilience and leadership skills to get us there. And now, more than ever, we need to bring our focus back to our own mental health and wellness in order to bring our skill sets to the table & to continuing thriving. My guest today is Clinical & Positive Psychologist Dr Vikki Barnes. A graduate of Exeter University, Vikki is an international speaker, with numerous positive psychology accreditations. to her name. She has worked for over 10 years with the NHS and the Virgin Group, founding and leading organisation-wide mental health and wellbeing programmes. She now works as a freelance consultant for individuals and organisations who want to look after themselves and the mental wellbeing of their teams. My conversation with Vikki; rescheduled to Zoom on the first day of the Covid-19 enforced lockdown in the UK, deep dives into Positive Psychology, maximising on opportunities in a time of chaos, acceptance and connection. We also cover your questions: - How do we make decisions, that will affect our teams, when we don’t know the answers ourselves? - What practical wellbeing measures can we put into place to get us through this time? - Does meditation really work? Can it help to boost our immune systems? Huge thanks to Felix and to Vikki for pulling together to get this recorded and out during a time of intense global & personal pressure, and for helping to capture a poignant moment in history. Vikki is currently writing her first book and we look forward to welcoming her back to the podcast, later in the year to talk about it. That’s it for today. “I think that people are starting nowadays to expect more from their company that they work for. Traditional corporate social responsibility is fantastic, it looks after its local community and staff get engaged in away days or charity within the UK. But what we're seeing now is a shift, where companies are starting to have to look at their global impact a little bit more; starting to have to take more responsibility for the wider world”. Kate Webb. My guest today is Kate Webb; one half of the husband and wife team behind Devon based Orbis Expeditions; a company whose Sport with Purpose expeditions have recently been listed by the Telegraph as number 8 of the 50 greatest adventures on earth. The Devon based team behind Orbis are redefining Corporate Social Responsibility as we know it; marking 2020 as the official start of the next, truly exciting phase of their journey. Backed by elite names and with an expert knowledge, network and deep love of Africa’s beautiful Malawi, Orbis Expeditions are able to offer a unique CSR option for your team; igniting a powerful sense of purpose beyond profit and a drive to truly make a sustainable difference beyond your corporate worlds. Their skill sharing, challenge based, expeditions to Malawi, offer an incredible opportunity for powerful growth and are attracting the attention of some of our most respected companies, athletes and adventurers with recent collaborations with both Ollie Phillips and Dame Kelly Holmes, among others. The world is undoubtedly shifting into a powerful new era with industries across the globe committing to making a positive impact and change for the good. From the ground up, individuals and companies are actively looking for ways to scale their impact, empower their teams and make their mark as change makers. Whether through collaboration, sponsorship or as a member of the expedition team, your partnership with Orbis, will send out a powerful message to your customers, investors and team; one that addresses and acknowledges the need to work together as one world and the need to unite. Catering for schools, Skills Sharing & Corporate Challenge, they have all bases covered. Our conversation today will leave you with goosebumps and a longing to shake up the status quo and look beyond profit margins towards making sustainable global impact and change for good. “Something that I feel massively passionate about is that, in ten years time, perhaps maybe less frighteningly, tech is going to play such a huge part in business. But one thing that Siri doesn't have an answer for is a momentary problem; something that happens immediately. We need to be better at thinking on our feet” Tom Veasey Produced by Felix Northover, this episode of Exeter Real is made possible by our award winning friends here at the Deer Park. Of the six human needs, it's the desire for significance that can make or break us; arguably keeping us trapped in that crazy 8 cycle more than any other. The need to be recognised and valued in both our personal and professional lives is one of the most powerful driving forces. Acted on in a healthy manner, it can add huge value to our world. But desired for unhealthy reasons, it can be the very anchor that holds us back from reaching our greatest potential. My guest on the podcast today is Guildford trained stage and screen actor, and singer and co-founder of The Creative Theatre Academy; Tom Veasey. With a 15 year career, including a US tour with the Twelve Tenors in the bag, he'll be the first to acknowledge that his own quest for significance, during his early career, was far from ideal but that the lessons he learned back then have stayed with him and made him who he is today. Today’s conversation with Tom questions the existence of perfection and delves into the heightened need to break the rules, innovate and take risks; and, in an increasingly competitive, technology focused world, to encourage our children to do the same. Exeter University Drama Dept. Shout Out Something I am increasingly passionate about, is supporting emerging young, talent in the city. Sofia Gallucci Giles and Susannah Bramwell are two Exeter University students that Tom & I had the pleasure of meeting recently. What’s planned becomes possible & what’s scheduled is real” Tony Robbins Welcome back to Exeter Real where leaders create leaders and where we feature the tools, tricks and stories from our greatest entrepreneurs, business leaders, adventures and elite athletes, from right here in the city and from across the globe. Delving deep into their growth mindset we aim, through the art of great conversation, to find out just exactly what it takes to thrive in a world of both challenge and opportunity. In episode #12, we’re catching up with two of Exeter’s favourite professional rugby players; Scotland International & Exeter Chief Sam Skinner and Exeter Chief’s Pete Laverick. The RPA’s focus on player welfare and transitioning from the pro game, opened a door into the world of cider making, at Sandford Orchards, allowing the boys to transfer their on the pitch skills, into business and develop a tantalisingly delicious cider to be proud of. From harvesting and pressing to bottling, Rib Tickler is already holding its own against the top players; its rich aromas of honey and baked apple hitting all the right notes across the county and beyond.
