Description

“In times like this, everyone has to come together. I think the important lesson for everybody is ‘don't judge people when their chips are down, judge them over a period of a lifetime’. When we are vulnerable and when we're in desperate need of help, that's when we shouldn't be judged. People make mistakes. And I've made loads of mistakes in life. And I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. I think that's how we learn and that's how we come together as people; that’s how we really, truly understand who we are. We should never judge people when we're going through times of struggle like this because people will make mistakes”. Produced by Felix Northover and recorded via Zoom during these incredibly challenging times, we ask the question; what does it take to thrive in a world of both challenge and opportunity and most importantly, how do we build the resilience and leadership skills to get us there. In this unprecedented time of global chaos and uncertainty, now more than ever we, as leaders, entrepreneurs and change makers need to dig deep and draw on our innate abilities to problem solve, innovate and instil a sense of calm, to lead with confidence. We need to get clear on facts; differentiating between what’s real and what’s hype and building common sense conversations around the truth, to make the best decisions for those relying on us. And now, more than ever, we need to bring our focus back to our own mental health and wellness in order to bring our skill sets to the table & to continuing thriving. My guest today is Tom Murphy. An entrepreneur and mentor with businesses both here in Exeter and in Melbourne, Australia. Tom is the founder of Life According to Murf; mentoring people to become the best possible version of themselves and creating the highest levels of success in business and in life. And as we record, he’s on the upward trajectory after contracting what was almost certainly the Corona Virus, 3 weeks ago. My conversation with Tom explores: - the long term effects of isolation - regret - leadership in a time of extreme challenge. He also delves into his own personal practices that you can put in place today, to move through this period and emerge on the other side stronger than ever. Huge thanks to Felix and to Tom for pulling together and getting this recorded and out during a time of intense global & personal pressure, and for helping to capture a poignant moment in history.
