I recently went to an event for gym owners, and realised that I don't really view myself as a "gym owner", more like a PT who happens to have a gym.I think it's important to change this as although I do take my job seriously, I can never make Fit for Purpose as good as it can be for my members if I don't believe in the fact that I'm a gym owner! I need to start taking things a bit more seriously.I think this can resonate well with anyone on a fitness journey.If you're trying to make new habits stick, you need to first believe in yourself!You need to see yourself as the type of person who values their health and takes care of themselves, if you half arse it and try to force yourself to do stuff you don't want to you won't get as far.
Before you can fine tune something, you have to first be consistent with it. I think a lot of people worry about the finer details, when they'd be better off making sure they're as consistent as possible. Being consistent will solve the majority of your problems, then once you're consistent you can start fine tuning things. I think all these 'optimisers' online just confuse people and make things seem more complicated than they really are. Consistency is king, don't stress to much about the details 💪.
Shit happens! sometimes stuff happens which is out of your control & your priorities change. I think it's also important to put things into perspective and focus on how far you've came. You might not be where you want to be yet, but you might've still came along way! I'm not saying don't hold yourself to a high standard but I am saying it's always good to put your progress into perspective 👍.
Most people think they need to wait until they're motivated to get started.
When in fact the way you get motivated is by getting started!
It'll take you longer than you think! You're going to have setbacks, life will get in the way, you'll fall into bad habits. These things are part of the journey and are absolutely fine. it'll probably take you longer to get to where you want to be than you realise, but the main thing is that you get there! A 30 day detox or a 6 week shred probably isn't the answer. It might take longer than you realise, but you'll get there as long as you don't give up 👍.
There are plenty of other benefits to living a healthy lifestyle that I care more about than a number on a scale. remember there are plenty of ways to measure your progress and don't let a number on the scale define who you are.
Motivation comes and goes! You won't always be motivated so you can't rely on it to take action.
Relying too much on external goals and rewards can actually have a negative impact on your motivation, as once you achieve that reward or goal you'll probably have a drop in motivation.
It's fine to have drops in motivation from time to time, everyone will experience that.
But the people who stay in shape all year round don't rely on externally motivated, they're internally motivated and still stay consistent even when their motivation is low.

Don't be so hard on yourself all the time, and give yourself credit where credits due.

Which is why its important to celebrate small wins, acknowledge the effort you're putting in and give yourself credit.

This is a redo of an episode I did a few weeks ago where I discuss why I don't track calories year round.
I personally only track calories when I'm trying to lose fat, and I don't feel as if I have to track all the time because I eat the same meals most of the time and generally make good food choices and have a good understanding of nutrition.
This episode was inspired by the fact I realised we were already in September and I'm not sure where the time's went!
Time is going to pass and it'll pass pretty quickly, so today I just want to remind you to make the most of your time today because you can't get it back.
Don't put things off, the perfect time doesn't exist.
They might sound like the same thing, but there's a big, important difference between body weight and body fat, and one issue with the scale is that it doesn't distinguish between the 2.
Body weight = how much you weigh based off the number on the scale (impacted by LOADS of other things).
Body fat = the percentage of your body weight that is made up of fat.
If your goals fat loss, yes you want both your weight and bf% to come down, but it's really important to understand the difference between the 2 especially if you're going to use the scale.
The scale is a useful tool for both accountability and tracking progress, but it's certainly not perfect!
For some weighing themselves is a horrible experience, and imo the whole point in trying to lose weight isn't to make you feel worse, it's to make you feel better. So if you really really hate the scale you don't have to use it.
So while it's useful it's definitely not mandatory.
But I do believe some people could benefit from using it on a regular consistent basis.
Something I've changed my tune on is whether or not you should cut out certain foods when trying to lose fat.
As I am an "everything in moderation" type of guy, I usually say you shouldn't cut out foods as I think it's unnecessary and can lead to a bad relationship with food.
With that said, I think there may be a time and place to cut out certain foods, or at the very least limit them as much as possible.

Today I want to talk about something that is very common after returning from holiday - struggling to feel motivated, push yourself and get back into a good routine.
I want you to know that this is fine and completely normal and not to beat yourself about it.
I try to warn clients that it'll probably take some time to get back into the swing of things after their holiday, and it's ok to take a few weeks to settle back in.
Stop beating yourself up over enjoying yourself at the weekends.
The whole point of doing all this fitness stuff is to help you enjoy life more, not to make you stressed! Or make you feel guilty about enjoying yourself.
I read a book called "How big things get done" which looked at how different projects do well, reach deadlines and stay under budget, and how other projects do the exact opposite lol.
I thought the book made a few points that could easily be related to fat loss, and that's what I've tried to cover in this podcast episode.
When measuring your progress, it's really important to zoom out and look at the bigger picture.
For example, just because you haven't lost weight this week doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong, especially if you have been losing weight consistently over the last month or so!
Also, there's millions of ways to measure your progress, so try not to get caught up on just one.
My issue with menopause workout plans.Is that most of them are just generic training plans with menopause in the title.They may still help, but here's why I still have an issue with them.I feel as if some coaches have noticed that there is a need for menopause support, which isn't a bad thing.As someone who's client base is currently 100% women, it makes sense for me to understand the menopause better so I can do my best to support clients before, during & after it.There's nothing wrong with trying to help women going through the menopause, but there is something wrong with trying to make money off them off generics workouts that don't do what they say on the tin.To me, these coaches are taking something that they know women are...- Struggling with.- Are worried about.- Probably not getting enough support with.And are using that to aim a generic products at them!Lastly, I'm sure there are products out there that do genuinely help women manage going through the menopause.But as with everything in the diet & exercise world.It can be challenging for people to tell what's legit and what's not!
