Description

The majority of the African population lives in rural areas, but a fast urban transition is un-derway. More and more people are moving to larger cities. What opportunities and risks lie in Africa's increasing urbanization, for example in terms of economy and infrastructure? And what is the significance of cities in relation to the still raging corona pandemic? Afri-can economics expert Edlam Yemeru talks about these and other exciting topics in the podcast series "Africa‘s Future – Why cities matter". She is chief of the Urbanization and Development Section at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, based in Addis Ababa. The moderator of the podcast is Ludger Schadomsky, editor of Deutsche Welle with a focus on Ethiopia.
The conversation was recorded by telephone between Addis Ababa and Berlin – so if the sound quality is not quite perfect in some places, please bear with us.
