Squaring the Circle? Digital Europe between regulation and innovation
Update: 2021-01-18
Description
Can European regulation in the digital sector be a pathway to innovation and economic growth? Or is it a potential hindrance that should only be used with caution? These and other interesting questions are discussed by two top-class experts: Katarina Barley is a German lawyer and politician and is currently Vice President of the European Parliament. A member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, she previously served as Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, Federal Minister for Labor and Social Affairs and Federal Minister for Justice and Consumer Protection. Christoph Bornschein is CEO and founder of the German digital business agency group Torben, Lucie und die gelbe Gefahr. He advises international companies, brands and government institutions on the strategic use of digital technologies. He is also a member of the Sounding Board of the project “Digital Europe 2030”.
This is the second of a total of three episodes that have been produced within the context of the Alfred Herrhausen Society's "Digital Europe 2030" project. The project uses methods of strategic foresight to address the question of how Europe’s public sphere and its digital sovereignty can be strengthened under the conditions of increasing digitalisation in all areas of life. To this end, an interdisciplinary group of experts was convened to construct possible scenarios for the future of Europe, which can be read here: bit.ly/398iDwN
