Behind the Build: Why I Started 100 Day Visibility School
Description
Episode 975: Show Notes
I am posting for 100 days in a row on social media, and I am putting out content that is meant to help people grow their visibility, their followers, their email subscribers, or their buyers. I specifically wanted to put this out into the world so that I could also grow my own list, with the goal of adding 10000 subscribers in 100 days. Now, this episode is the full behind-the-scenes, why I decided to do it, how it’s different from my 100-Day LinkedIn experiment, and why I’m scared out of my mind. But I’m confident this is exactly what I’m supposed to be doing. Let’s dive in!

I couldn’t even tell you whose ad it was that first got my attention. But I can tell you that he was talking about his viral strategy, and specifically about one of his students, who quickly grew from implementing these strategies. This guy, a video editor, is sharing tips and tricks all about this. But it was really clear that the reason his account grew was because of this series that he started, and he called it 100-Day Editing School. That’s not a new idea! I’ve seen plenty of people do things like this on social media. I’ve just never known what one thing (of the many things I talk about) I should focus on. I like to consider myself a jack of all trades, and part of my hesitation has just been about picking what my thing is.
The Intimidation Factor: Showing Up, Being Seen, and Respecting the Life that You Want
Just because you want a business that honors the way you want to show up in life, doesn’t mean you have to pretend to be a ‘chill’ version of yourself that you’re not. Sometimes, when we work so hard to protect our peace and stand by our boundaries, we make ourselves invisible. We slow down so much that we stop showing up altogether! I think there is a way to do both in a way that is authentic. It’s been hard for me to show up with the same level of energy as before for many reasons, but I know that if I put some things in front of myself that I’m truly excited about, things could change. I know that if I want to get the book deal of my dreams, growth and visibility online would only make this process easier.
What Made Me Choose the Topic and Why It’s Going to Help You
My current email list has been hovering between 41 and 42,000 active subscribers, and I really know that getting it to 50,000 would make a huge difference in the deal I ultimately land on. So, while I could try to do that after the fact, I’m trying to sell this thing before the end of the year. I want visibility now! I know I wanted to grow my list, so I brainstormed all the ways I could do that. But the one I landed on was a signature series. I don’t only want to make it about my journey to getting more subscribers. I love sharing as I’m learning along the way, but to reach people who don’t know I exist at all, I have to show more of what’s in it for them. I love the ‘100 Day’ format, and I now know that my ‘thing’ is visibility. Now, I’m going to post a video a day for 100 days. It doesn’t mean I can’t batch content, but to get the traction I want to get, I need consistency. What if I use this on multiple platforms? So, I’m going to start a new TikTok again! This series is going to be sticky, so I’m starting a new account.
The Not-So-Secret Formula I Landed On for My 100-Day Series
When I share about stuff on the podcast, it is also accountability — I have to do it! This series won’t just be about email list growth; that it will be about being seen and being visible, and the mindset stuff surrounding that. With 100 posts, I’m willing to go across the board, and I’ve got plenty of room to play. I have a hook, and I’m reintroducing the fact that it’s a 100-day series during every episode. I’m going to keep each video under two minutes, ideally, under a minute if I can! Am I nuts for committing to a 100-day video series and writing a book proposal at the same time as I’m going through IVF? Yes, I’ve lost it! But, in other ways, each of the projects will distract me from the others so that I don’t get as stressed.
How I’m Creating Accountability (And How You’re a Part of That!)
I tell other people I’m going to do something, and it’s for them, I am far more likely to follow through with it than if it’s just for myself. If I had just committed to posting for 100 days with the purpose of getting new followers, I would have stopped. But with this structure, I will feel accountable for posting the next thing. I’m ready for more!
I don’t want to just have people watch on the sidelines; I want people to benefit from the things I’m putting out into the world. My end goal is to make all of my education free, so sharing tips on a regular basis feels very aligned with that! It would mean so much to me if you took the time to follow along, and to comment on a regular basis, even if you already have the thing I’m talking about! You sharing the posts and cheering me on in my DMs would be so helpful.
Why I’m Not Just Trying to Grow 50000 Subscribers
It’s not just for vanity; this is part of a bigger strategy. This is about earning the platform I want the book to stand on. Every post is built to do one or more of four things. I want to grow followers, grow subscribers, grow buyers, or grow interest in what I’m putting out into the world ahead of this book. I want to connect with people, I want to feel more in community with people I truly care about. I want to see the opportunities that are in front of me and truly capture them instead of just watching them pass me by.
You should follow along, and if you’re interested in growing your list, you need to be at my workshop!
Period.
You need to come, because I’m doing something I haven’t done before: when you show up and you take the time to be there, I’m giving away one of my $100 courses, completely free. If you’re super curious about what that looks like, you need to go to bossproject.com/1000. I just want you to know that if you’re feeling lost or off track, there are ways to rein it back in and feel in alignment again. It’s taken a lot for me to get here, but all of the hard days, they weren’t for nothing.
Quote This
You can be rested and radiant. You can have your chill without being invisible. Your most infectious self isn’t quiet. You know this, I know this. So why are you being so dull?
