The Strategy Behind “Getting Lucky” on LinkedIn with Liam Darmody
Description
Episode 982: Show Notes
What if I told you that getting lucky on LinkedIn isn’t about luck at all, but rather about a strategy that’s amplified by your authenticity? Today, I’m joined by the founder of Liam’s Brand Stand, Liam Darmody, to discuss how he grew a thriving consultancy and a LinkedIn following of over 45,000 people by simply showing up as himself!
In this conversation, we break down his philosophy of ‘manifesting serendipity,’ how to turn your LinkedIn profile into a lead-generating landing page, how to build an audience, and how to use tools to scale your presence without losing your personality. If you’ve been wondering how to market yourself without losing yourself or how to make LinkedIn work for you, then this episode is definitely for you!

What It Means to ‘Manifest Serendipity’
Liam uses the phrase, ‘manifesting serendipity,’ all the time, and it resonates a lot with his audience. For him, it’s a good representation of how he views LinkedIn. Liam had a career in operations for 20 years and used this technique to pivot into marketing. From this transition, he learned that if you show up, share who you are, and talk about what you’re passionate about, an audience will build itself around you, and that’s how you will grow! This mindset even helped him buy a house, believe it or not! He wants you to ask yourself what opportunities you may be missing because you’re not being yourself online. What if you started manifesting serendipity and showing up authentically to build relationships with your audience?
The Four Pillars of Leveraging LinkedIn Effectively
When Liam teaches people how to leverage LinkedIn effectively, he focuses on four things. The first is having a true understanding of who you are, what you do, why you do it, and why you’re the best at it. Then, he wants you to build a LinkedIn profile that functions as a marketing page for your personal brand. The second step is understanding who you want to network with on LinkedIn and how to do that. You have a tremendous opportunity to build an audience (for free!) that fits your client profile. Next, you need to invest in different types of content, and Liam wants you to remember that posting about your personal journey and experiences will make your connections more invested in your personal brand. Finally, he teaches his clients how to optimize efficiency on the platform and hone in on the right places.
Mastering Your Sales Strategy
The best and most effective sales strategy is one that doesn’t even feel like it’s sales because most people don’t love being sold to! Liam wants you to get into the rhythm of adding new people to your network who are a really good match for your ICP. It’s easy to shy away from posting sales content, but if you get into a good routine of posting sales content and then sprinkling some of the personal stuff in between, it becomes easier. You have to be patient, consistent, have your content strategy nailed down, and always be adding new people to the top of your funnel.
Building Connections Using LinkedIn Sales Navigator
Have you ever struggled to identify which of your LinkedIn connections are actually active on the platform? Well, that is where LinkedIn Sales Navigator comes in. It is a really powerful platform that filters out who has posted in the last 30 days (among other things). Once you’ve filtered those people out, you can also see all of that person’s activities and decide whether or not that person will interact with your content. That is how you grow your LinkedIn presence. Once you’ve connected with them, Liam wants you to send them a message and tell them a little bit about yourself, and that opens the door for you to engage with each other’s content.
LinkedIn is evolving constantly, and the algorithms are changing all the time, so you can’t just take advice from anyone. You won’t get overnight results, so be prepared to do the work and spend time on building your profile! If you want to utilize LinkedIn but feel intimidated about where to start, then be sure to follow Liam for more of his amazing tips and strategies.
