Corporate Accountability or Industry Capture? A Critical Look at the UNFSS Hub
Description
In this episode, we explore FIAN International’s critical analysis of the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub (UNFSS Hub) roadmap for "corporate accountability" in food system transformation. The report argues that the UNFSS Hub aligns with industry interests, disregards international human rights standards, and sidelines frontline communities. It criticizes the roadmap’s reliance on voluntary corporate commitments rather than binding regulatory mechanisms and highlights concerns over the inclusion of corporations with vested interests in policymaking. FIAN International advocates for excluding profit-driven companies from governance spaces and calls for a legally binding international treaty on transnational corporations and human rights. The report also raises concerns about undisclosed conflicts of interest and the marginalization of voices from the Global South, warning that the UNFSS Hub’s approach may ultimately harm those most in need of support.
