Daily Zohar 5001

Holy Zohar text. Daily Zohar -5001

Zohar Chayei Sarah

Continued from previous DZ

#180

Rabbi Yitzchak said: Gabriel brings them to the Land of Israel. From where do we know this? As it is written: “הֲתֵלְכִי עִם הָאִישׁ הַזֶּה”, “Will you go with this man?” (Genesis 24:58 ), and it is written there: “וְהָאִישׁ גַּבְרִיאֵל”, “And the man was Gabriel” (Daniel 9:21 ). Rabbi Yossi said: What is written: “וּלְרִבְקָה אָח וּשְׁמוֹ לָבָן”, “And Rebecca had a brother and his name was Laban” (Genesis 24:29 ). Rabbi Yitzchak said: The evil inclination (yetzer hara) is not nullified from the world. Even though its whole is not present, some of it is.

Notes:

Gabriel (the “man”) guides righteous bodies to the Land of Israel for resurrection, paralleling Rebecca’s journey. Laban symbolizes the persistent partial presence of the evil inclination.

#181

Come and see: At first, when he was placed in this world, he was called Lot. In the world to come, he will be nullified from the world, but [in the future to come] he will be called Laban, not defiled as at first, but like one who has washed from his defilement. Why is Laban needed? Rabbi Shimon said: For procreation and multiplication, it is needed. For Rabbi Shimon said: If the evil inclination (yetzer hara) is not found, procreation and multiplication are not found.
