What we explore in this episode:
The importance of self-trust when working with divination practices
Why tarot and intuition point to possibilities rather than fixed outcomes
How prophecy in Harry Potter highlights the tension between fate and free will
A step-by-step “Trust Yourself” tarot spread you can try at home
Divination, Tarot & Trusting Yourself @ Enchanticon 2025
When I stepped onto the stage at Enchanticon, I knew I wanted to talk about more than Trelawney, tea leaves, and tarot cards. I wanted to talk about trust. Trusting our intuition. Trusting the symbols that show up in our lives. Trusting ourselves. Because divination isn’t just about predicting the future, it’s about learning how to listen to ourselves in the present.
Prophecy, Intuition, & Free Will
The central question of prophecy in Harry Potter is whether the future is set in stone. Dumbledore reminds Harry: “It is our choices, far more than our abilities, that show who we truly are.” Voldemort heard half the prophecy, tried to prevent it, and ended up ensuring its fulfillment.
This is how I see tarot. A spread doesn’t tell me what must happen. A card pull isn’t a locked-in script; it’s a hint of possibility. Intuition works the same way. It doesn’t force our hand. It says, “Here’s what you already know—now, what will you do with it?” The magic happens in that gap between knowing and choosing, because while prophecy may frame the story, it's free will that writes the ending.
Trust Yourself Tarot Spread (pulled from The Sasuraibito Tarot deck)
This spread is designed to help you quiet the noise, listen inward, and reconnect with your own inner compass. Each position explores a different facet of self-trust, moving from the whisper of intuition to the long-term anchors that sustain you.
1. The Whisper
What my intuition is quietly telling me right now.
This is the seed of inner knowing that’s easy to dismiss or overlook. It’s the gentle nudge that reminds you where truth already lives inside of you.
2. The Static
What’s clouding or confusing my inner voice?
External noise, fear, or old patterns that interfere with clarity. Here, you’ll see the influences that make it harder to trust what you already know.
3. The Compass
How can I tune in and hear myself more clearly?
The practices, perspectives, or habits that reconnect you to your truth. This is your guidance system for realigning with your intuition.
4. The Leap
A step I can take to act in alignment with my inner knowing.
A tangible action you can try to build trust in yourself through lived experience.
5. The Anchor
What will sustain and deepen my self-trust in the long term?
The ongoing support, values, or reminders that keep you grounded in your own wisdom. This card points to what helps you hold steady when doubt returns.
