Ep. 56 Parenting Apart - Choosing Between Co-Parenting and Parallel Parenting
Description
Ang has talked a lot on the show about co-parenting and how to do it smoothly for the benefit of your children, but, this week Ang is exploring a different type of parenting, and one that worked for her - Parallel Parenting. Designed to give each parent more freedom over their individual choices and decisions on how they raise their child, parallel parenting is a very viable option for a lot of single parents, and one that more and more people are turning to. In this episode Ang goes into detail on what parallel parenting is, the cases where it is a better option than co-parenting and how you can adopt it so that both yourself and your children benefit now, and in the long term.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- Before Ang delves into parallel parenting, she gives an overview of what co-parenting is and how it is supposed to work, which, as she explains is far from the reality of how it usually works.
- What exactly is parallel parenting? Ang breaks down the concept, the roles and responsibilities of each parent and how it offers a viable alternative to co-parenting.
- There are four key differences between the two types of parenting models. Ang breaks down all four so you can have a clear understanding.
- Not all divorces are the same and not all separations are amicable. Ang explains why parallel parenting might be a better model for parents that don't always see eye to eye.
BEST MOMENTS
"Co-Parenting is the idea that responsibilities are split 50-50, but in reality, that is rarely the case."
"In situations where co-parenting could be damaging to the children, parallel parenting can provide a more peaceful solution."
"You should never be made to feel guilty for choosing the best option for your mental health."
