Goal!!! How Europeans shaped the Premier League
Description
If there is an arena in which we can all agree European migration has been a success story, it’s football. European players and managers began arriving in greater and greater numbers to join the ranks of the British game from the 1990s onwards - transforming the sport for the better and helping to establish an elite championship such as the Premier League. In this episode we will speak to Claudio Ranieri, a pioneer in the wave of Europeans who went on to coach the top tier English clubs. The Italian manager will share with us how his experience in the continent contributed to his legendary Premier League victory with Leicester City.
Together with our experts, Simon Kuper from the FT and Philippe Auclair from France Football, we will also discuss how football played a key role in making Britons feel more European, and question whether these ties will survive Brexit.
