How I’m Prepping My Business to Run Without Me (For 7 Days)
Description
Episode 978: Show Notes
You’re not going to bring your entire wardrobe on a trip, you’re just going to bring what you need! I am leaving the country very soon and I thought I’d show you how I’m preparing my business to run without me while I’m gone. I am headed to the UK for seven days, and I am so excited because I haven’t left the USA in 13 years! Last August, I joined a leadership course, and now we’re all going to the UK together. I’ve known for almost a year now that I am going to be gone for a week, and while I wanted to spend a ton of time preparing my business, I’m 10 days out and realizing that I need to get it together! I think we all enter a time in our business where we are excited about stepping away but don’t want to drop the ball. So I’m going to share how I’m (realistically) making it happen for myself and how you can too.

“Packing Up” Before I Leave
In order to decide what I wanted to get done before I leave, I had an internal meeting. I asked myself what my client communication and prospecting were like, how many calls I had on my calendar, what I’m obligated to deliver on, what’s happening as soon as I get back, etc. If you know what all of these things are, planning what needs to get done becomes a whole lot easier. Batching tasks that are similar also makes this process so much smoother! I also like to use my notes app to keep track of all of the things I need to do before I leave so that I can simply check them off the list.
What I’m “Putting Down”
From that list, there are some things that I’m willing to unplug from while I’m away. Now this doesn’t mean I’m canceling things forever or trashing my business plan; they’re just things I’m willing to put on pause and will decide how I get back on track when I’m home again. So, for example, I don’t have any live calls, scheduled meetings, or anywhere I have to be online during my trip. Communication with clients is absolutely key, and auto responses are a great way to let
clients know when I’m going to be gone and when I’ll be back. You don’t owe anyone anything except clear communication.
Packing My “Carry Ons”
Now, I will have a couple of things to do, even when I’m traveling. Most of the time, when I’m away, I do not commit to doing things I can’t preschedule. But there is one thing I choose to maintain during these times – 100 Day Visibility School. I want to keep that going while I’m gone because I’m a little OCD and don’t want to be off by a week. At the end of the day, I’m in charge of the way things happen, so I can make changes that suit me during my time away. The great thing is that my business is set up for me to walk away already. So much already happens automatically.
Whether you’re prepping for a vacation, a life event, or you just need a break, I want you to remember that you don’t have to disappear! You can step away and build a business that will keep running and bring in revenue. Yes, you will have to make adjustments and prepare for these things, but, when you have a lot of these things in place in advance (like I did) then it will feel a whole lot easier! If you feel like this is something you need to do, send me a DM – I want to hear about it!
