We’ve all heard the statistic that 50% of marriages end in divorce. Yet, how many people who are married or planning to get married actually make provisions for the possibility of a future breakup? Even though divorces can be contentious, when it comes to separating finances and dividing assets, most couples simply don’t think ahead enough to make plans for this possibility. However, there seems to be a shift recently. Although prenuptial agreements are still uncommon, their rates have steadily risen over the last 20 years.

In this episode, our friend Emma Pattee will make a case for why she thinks all married or engaged couples should have a prenup or postnup. She’ll tell us the story of how she and her husband ended up with both of these documents and how it affected their relationship. She’ll share with us what they did right and what she wished they could have done better.
