WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR JULY 16, 2025

  • Weather has not changed dramatically enough to seriously change world crop development potentials overnight; however, a little more ridge building over the U.S. Midwest for a little while late this weekend into next week brings a little heat and less rain and that has some of the market trade a little more interested

    • The high pressure ridge does not stay over the Midwest for more than a few days, although it will be present long enough to induce much warmer temperatures and less rain which will firm the topsoil and induce a little moisture and heat stress to crops that have seen the lightest rainfall and the most limited soil moisture in recent weeks

    • Most computer forecast models shift the high pressure ridge back to the west toward the end of this month bringing back some “cooler” conditions and inducing a little more shower and thunderstorm activity in key Midwestern crop areas

    • The pattern looks very normal for summer and subsoil moisture is favorable enough to carry most crops through the period without too much difficulty, but it will be important that rain and cooling return as advertised to maintain crop integrity

  • The change in U.S. weather will bring total predicted yields for corn and soybeans under a little more scrutiny; though corn is far enough advanced that the impact should be low as long as the high pressure ridge retreats to the west and stays out to the west as advertised

  • The changing weather pattern over North America opens the door of opportunity for rain to fall across Canada’s Prairies late this weekend and briefly later next week and that could improve crop and field conditions for better canola, corn and soybean development

    • The change will come a little late for some of the wheat and barley that has already been seriously stressed, but crops that have received some periodic rain will benefit greatly

    • Drier and warmer weather will resume as the high pressure ridge shifts to the west in late July and early August

  • Very little weather change of significance was noted in Europe, Asia, India, Australia or South America today relative to that of Tuesday except…..

    • Australia’s forecast has a little more rain in Queensland and New South Wales than that advertised Tuesday morning

    • Greater cooling in South America during the second week of the outlook brings cooler air back to northern and eastern Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and southern Brazil

      • Some of this cold is overdone and there is not much threat of damaging cold expected for sugarcane, citrus or coffee areas in Brazil

      • The temperature change does increase the rain potential in parts of southern Brazil briefly during mid- to late-week next week
