WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR JULY 17, 2025
- No general theme changes were noted overnight
- Slightly less rain was advertised for the eastern Canada Prairies, although scattered showers and thunderstorms are still possible
- West Texas is a little wetter for next week than advertised Wednesday
- Most of the U.S. Midwest will get rain in the coming week
- High pressure ridge building over the U.S. mid-south region next week will induce some excessive heat and humidity stressing livestock and crops with rapid drying conditions over a few days
- The high pressure ridge is then expected to shift to the west into the Rocky Mountain region and high Plains by the last days of July
- The westward shift into the high pressure ridge will allow rain to continue falling periodically in the Midwest and temperatures will be seasonably warm, but not oppressively hot
- The greatest heat in North America is expected in the west during the last week of July 17, 2025
- The high pressure ridge is then expected to shift to the west into the Rocky Mountain region and high Plains by the last days of July
- Drought will continue in the northwestern United States
- Portions of the U.S. Delta, interior southeastern states and the southern Plains will dry down over the next two weeks
- Western and central Alberta, Canada will be wetter than usual during the coming ten days
- Week two weather in the U.S. Midwest may be marked by strong to severe thunderstorm clusters moving from northwest to southeast across the region
- A tropical cyclone is developing east of the Philippines today and will move toward southern China and possibly northern Vietnam over the coming week after brushing the northeast coast of Luzon Island, Philippines Friday
- Not much change in Asia with areas from eastern Ukraine into Kazakhstan experiencing limited rain and warm temperatures
- China’s dry region in east-central parts of the nation will get some relief this weekend into next week while other areas see a good mix of rain and sunshine
- Western Europe will have waves of rain this weekend into next week that should bring drought relief to parts of France, the U.K. and Germany
- Portions of France and the lower Danube River Basin will remain drier than usual and in need of greater rain
- Argentina rainfall will be restricted for a while
- Southern Brazil will trend wetter periodically over the next two weeks
- Safrinha crop harvesting in Brazil should advance well with little to no rain outside of Paraguay and Parana
- India rainfall will be abundant and frequent except in parts of Gujarat, central Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu where more limited rainfall is likely
- Indonesia and Malaysia rainfall is expected to be restricted during the next week to ten days allowing for greater drying to evolve
- Thailand should get some needed rain
