Overstimulation in Parenthood with Larissa Geleris
Description
Sensory overload is a very real thing in parenthood. A loving and fun house can also have a lot of noise and chaos. It’s easy to become overstimulated and overwhelmed. Larissa Geleris, licensed occupational therapist, explains why this happens to us.
How often have you heard “overstimulated” in connection with kids’ behaviors? Did you know that parents can also be overstimulated, bombarded with sensory overload, and susceptible to triggers that lead to self-incrimination and poor self-esteem?
In today’s episode, I have a conversation with Larissa from Steady Parents about being more steady in the face of the noise, daily demands, and the wild inconsistencies of child-rearing. Because let’s face it: we don’t all have go-with-the-flow personalities, and there are times we need some support!
Larissa shares practical, sustainable strategies for coping with the sensory demands of family life. Through mindful practice, we can develop more appropriate responses to what triggers us. It is validating to know that we ALL have different sensory thresholds; for every parent, this episode is valuable self-care that will immediately impact your family in a positive way. My mom wishes she had access to this 35 years ago!
