Sociologist Dr. Nicole Bedera PhD has spent her career researching sexual violence. In this important episode, she shares the research and patterns she discovered on the common factors that contribute to sexual violence in a community and why it is predictable and ordinary. She also shares what demographics are most at risk and why, and effective and ineffective prevention and response measures.

Dr. Nicole Bedera’s decade-long research on how social structures, organizations, and culture create a world where violence is predictable and ordinary. By identifying how violence is produced, we identify interventions to make our society safer.
Her work has been published in leading academic journals and featured in The New York Times, NPR, Time Magazine, Slate, and Teen Vogue. She is an affiliated Educator at the Center for Institutional Courage. Dr. Bedera is the co-founder of Beyond Compliance with Dr. Jacqueline Cruz.
