Royal Priests E1 - Adam, the First King
Update: 2023-05-02
Description
In this episode, the guys chat about the following questions and ideas:
- 0:30 - In Gen 1:26 , we read of how YHWH created humans in His image, as His ‘tselem’ (in Hebrew), or… as His idols! Where the nations of the ancient world have idols made of stone and clay, YHWH would have idols made of flesh and blood; where the idols of the nations would be dead, YHWH’s idols would living; where the idols of the nations would be stuck on their altars in their temples, YHWH’s idols would go forth and subdue all the earth, reigning as His representatives, bringing the people before Him, and Him before the people.
- 2:30 - For the guys, when read within the context of the Ancient Near East culture and religion, the language of Gen 1-2 positions Adam as a king. As the first and prime human, Adam’s kingship means that all of his offspring are literally royalty! To view all of humanity as royalty is quite different from how most modern Christians (and even non-Christians) view ourselves. And to take it further, this view was actually at stark odds with the religions and cultures surrounding Israel in ancient times as well.
- 6:25 - So what does the Bible’s portrayal of Adam and all his descendants as royalty mean for us as the people of God today? For the guys, this means that each and every human is special. It is a call to realise, to accept, and to embrace our lineage as YHWH’s kings and queens over this earth!
