In this episode, the guys chat about the following questions and ideas:

• 0:30 - In Mark 1:11 , we read of how, as Jesus arises from the waters of baptism, YHWH proclaims of him, “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” This is a touching scene of a Father proclaiming his love and pride for his Son. But in addition to that, YHWH is actually blending three key moments in the history of the Hebrew Bible, and proclaiming that Jesus is the culmination of the three corresponding characters in these passages.
• 2:05 - First, Jesus is (1) the Anointed One of Psalm 2! He is the King whose priestly rule invites all to come into his kingdom. Second, Jesus is (2) the beloved Son like Isaac in Genesis 22:2, who is offered as a sacrifice for sins that he did not commit… Or… is he more like the ram that YHWH provides as a substitute for Isaac? And finally, Jesus is like (3) the Suffering Servant of Isaiah 42:1-3, who is completely obedient to YHWH until the/his very end.
• 6:05 - So what does YHWH’s portrayal of Jesus as the Anointed One, the Priest-King who suffers and is sacrificed for the sake of others, mean for us, his followers today? For the guys, this is where Apostle Paul’s writings in Romans 6 and Galatians 3 come in. He describes how we, the anointed ones of today, get the opportunity to inherit this identity of Jesus as we join him in the sacred act of baptism. Christianity, therefore, is not so much a religion about receiving from Jesus, as it is about becoming Jesus.
