She really gets on my nerves.

她真是让我烦透了。

To get on someone’s nerves means to annoy or bother them until they are anxious or upset. You can use this expression for both situations and people. An idiom related to this expression is, “to grind my gears.” They both mean the same thing, and are used interchangeably. She really grinds my gears.

He is so cringey.

他实在是太尬了。

Cringey is an adjective that comes from the verb to cringe. To cringe means to feel disgust or embarrassment and it is usually accompanied with a recoiling or a wincing movement. So, to call someone cringey means that they are so embarrassing that they are causing you to feel the disgust or embarrassment from them. Oftentimes, you will hear younger English-speakers shorten this phrase and just use the word cringe. As in, “He is so cringe.”

You make me want to pull my hair out.

你真是让我上火。

If you make someone want to pull their hair out, this means that you are making them feel extremely frustrated. It can be used for both people and situations. In English, we would closely associate this expression with, “You’re making me crazy!” That being said, you may hear these expressions used together like this, “You are making me so crazy. I’m gonna pull my hair out!”

If someone rubs you the wrong way, this means that you don’t really get along with them or socialize well with them very well. If they rub you the wrong way, then you could say there is friction between you two. This may be because you don’t like their personality, attitude, or sense of humor. Or maybe, you just generally don’t like them and they annoy you.

She is such a party pooper.

她真是太扫兴了。

A party pooper is someone that ruins the fun or the mood of a party or it could be someone that generally refuses to join in on the fun. This could be an insult. For example, “Don’t invite her! She is such a party pooper.” Or it could be used in a persuasive way like this, “Don’t be such a party pooper. Come with us!”
